Revanth Reddy corrects PM Modi’s ‘factual errors’, says farmer is king in Telangana

As the BJP vs Congress “false poll promise” battle intensifies, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Saturday jumped on the bandwagon to defend his party and his governance in the state.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that the state is on a growth trajectory since his government came to power in December 2023. This comes in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dig at Congress-ruling states.
In an X post, PM Modi claimed on Friday that states under Congress-rule are suffering as “the development trajectory and fiscal health is turning bad to worse”.
Specifically pointing out Telangana, the PM said, “In Telangana, farmers are waiting for the waiver they promised.”
However, Reddy stated that there were “several misconceptions and factual errors” in PM Modi’s statements about Telangana.
In one among several achievements Chief Minister Reddy listed, he clarified how the stature of a Telangana farmer had become a king after Congress took charge in the state.
“We have implemented India’s largest ever, state-level farmer loan waiver, ensuring Rythe Raju (Farmer is King, in Telangana). Over 22 lakh and 22 thousand farmers (22,22,365) are now free of any loan, living like a king, with all loans of ryots up to Rs 2,00,000 waived. We have put over Rs 18,000 crores into farmers’ accounts in 25 days,” Reddy wrote in a long X post.
However, Reddy’s statements are contrary to what Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao in August claimed.
KTR asserted that Congress is “cheating” the farmers.
“After eight months, not even one-seventh of the loan waiver has been completed. We are demanding Congress to come up with a white paper,” said KTR as quoted by news agency PTI.
Meanwhile, the row over false poll-promises erupted in Karnataka after Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday rebuked the state government after Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, while addressing a gathering, said that the party will revisit the Shakti scheme, which provides free bus rides for women in the state.
